Feeling about Reviews

Good Morning,

I don’t know how I feel today, but it’s not on the plus side of the line. I wrote two books and published them. When I wrote the second book, I tried hard to make it different than the first book. As a new writer, I haven’t found my style yet. I think each story warrants something a bit different. Reading reviews hasn’t really benefited me in the way I thought it would. They leave me confused. Opinions vary that you can’t pinpoint where you actually need improvement. It’s difficult to trust someone with your work. I have a few I do trust.

Last night, I looked through other writers’ reviews. I came upon one review of a 2 star because the book had too many gay characters. What?

I had one who reviewer read the entire book, said it had good sex scenes, but she felt I did not finish all the loose ends, so she wrote in her last sentence that she will return the book. What? You read the book, don’t like the ending, so you return it. Interesting. She also said she didn’t like when I skipped an afternoon. I wonder how she would feel about a family saga that lasted generations. I mean you can’t show every minute of the character’s day. It would be a soap opera. Then you read other reviews that say it could be cut down, and not to show every detail.

So which is it? I have no idea. At this point, I don’t know what method to trust to improve my writing. I go by what I like in a book.

I read an article yesterday explaining that many authors pay for positive reviews. I don’t think that’s fair at all, but this is a free market and a free market isn’t always fair.
Writing Erotica has its own issues with people who have specialized kinks and taboos. I ask myself who is my audience? How do I make sure I enlarge my audience circle? I first write for me.

There is a fine line when you stop promo and begin to write. Some writers can do both, but unfortunately I’m not one of them. I have to focus on one thing at a time.
I think I need a vacation very soon away from people.

5.0 Stars of 5.0 Brennan is an awesome character, love him. May 29, 2014

I really enjoyed this story. Brennan is so lovable. Not that I agreed with most of his choices but I understood them. I didn’t like Dimitri. I saw him as abusive and controlling but I did end up believing that he did love Brennan. At the end, I was glad Brennan got his man but would love a sequel to find out if it really turned out to be HEA. It’s my understanding this is Brina Brady’s first book. If so I’m impressed. Excellent work.

5.0 Stars of 5.0 Deliciously fun MM erotica May 28, 2014

Brennen is a smart kid who is knows what he wants but has a little trouble figuring out how to get it. He makes some mistakes that all young people make but then things just spin out of his control. This book about a young man’s journey in figuring out what is important and what is not. Brennen tends to be a spoiled brat sometimes but I could not help but to love him.
Dmitri is a Russian Mob boss who takes Brennen under his wing and they fall in love but between Brennen choosing to be a rent boy and Dmitri’s deeply instilled Russian traditions thing start to fall apart. Dmitri can be a controlling and conniving sob but he has his reasons and he also has a better side the side that just wants to take care and protect Brennen.
In this book Brennen is put through some pretty tough situations and the author does a good job with fleshing him out in the end you really get sense of his growth. He matures quite a through or even because of it all.
This book is a great book for those who like a bit of taboo with their mm erotic romance.
4.0 Stars of 5.0 Delicious fun! May 30, 2014

Wow! This book is super hot, but the story itself is so compelling I was up until 4 am reading. I spent half my time wanting to smack the guys upside the head, and the other half going awwww…
Their relationship is by no means conventional, but it somehow manages to work for them. Now if they could just learn to communicate! But oh, such sexy sweet, naughty, and downright horrid boys they are!
All I can say is… more please!

This book was a lot of back and forth. Brennan made some really stupid decisions that put him in a few places that were horrible for him. Brennen was abused a little too much but I just couldnt put the book down. It was great. I couldnt wait to see what was next. I hate he and jesse couldn’t reconcile but otherwise I liked this one. Its a new author and I will read her in the future.

Brennan was abandoned by his parents and abused for most of his life. Dimitri is a Russian mobster who takes Brennan under his protection when Brennan is 12 years old. Their relationship becomes a sexual relationship when Brennan turns 18. Brennan and Dimitri each have their own issues but throughout all of the mistakes they both make, the one constant is that they love each other. Brennan makes some bad choices but I sympathized with him when he and others paid the consequences of his actions. Through all of the drama, Dimitri kept his vow to keep him under his protection. The story kept my interest and despite some dysfunctional elements to their relationship, I enjoyed their story and hoped they would find a way to make their relationship work.
